It was a fantastical restaurant that made me feel like I'd stepped into a Russian movie. The interior was retro and beautiful, the music was a bit too loud but a good choice, and the food was delicious. If I could ask for one more thing, I wish they had asked me at checkout, "If you're staying at this hotel, you get 10% off?" for forgetful people like me.

As is generally true of bazaars in Central Asia, they are basically not places for foreign tourists to buy anything. Buy some clothes and ice cream, eat them, and then just look at the other things from a distance so as not to disturb the locals. And when you're satisfied, you should leave. To clarify, since this might make it sound like a bad place, foreigners can get a feel for Kyrgyzstan just by looking at it from afar and be perfectly satisfied.

The interior and exterior, reminiscent of the Soviet era, are historical and beautiful. However, speaking as a Japanese person, I don't particularly like this store. They only sell unofficial and pirated Japanese products and character goods. The neighboring TSUM is larger, has a better selection of Kyrgyz souvenirs, and is more enjoyable. I've heard that during the Soviet era, GUM was for foreigners and TSUM was for locals, but I wonder if it's the other way around now.

As a Japanese person, I must say this: Everything here is pirated. Even fan art drawn by Japanese people as a personal hobby is being illegally turned into merchandise and sold. I've seen some of these illustrations on Pixiv and Twitter, and none of the artists have given permission for them to be made into merchandise. Not a single yen of the money you spend here will reach the manga artists in Japan. It will all end up in China or somewhere similar.

It looks like they're selling Japanese products, but having lived in Japan for over 30 years, I haven't seen a single item that's Japanese, except for detergent and soap. I think almost everything is made in China. It looks like they're using Japanese characters without permission. (Though not as bad as Neko in the same department store.) If you expect high-quality Japanese products, you'll be sorely disappointed.
